The Adventures of Poppy
Just wanting to catch everyone up on what I’ve been doing since moving from Taroom to become an integral part of the CARE4MH team in Mackay. Well, life has been busy! I’m learning so many new and exciting things as well as experiencing some important necessities. And I’m growing into a confident and happy dog.
The fun stuff: There’s so much play time to be had, and I have such an assortment of toys which seems to be growing each week. Anything with a squeak is the best. When I’m really lucky, the kids next door come to visit me. I have learnt their special knock at the door and I run as fast as my little legs will go to greet them. I’ve also been for my first puppy groom, which I loved! I look particularly gorgeous with a bow on my ear.
Puppy preschool kept me busy last Friday night. Class was at 7pm which is a bit late for me. I prefer to be curled up on someone’s lap at that time of night, but it is what it is if I want to be a Therapy Dog. I’m perfecting the art of coming when I’m called, it’s always easier when a treat is on offer. I’m struggling to learn to sit because my tail wags so much that I just can’t sit down. Not sure what I’m in for over the next 3 weeks.
Navigating relationships: This has been interesting. Apparently it’s not ok to bite the ears of the family Kelpie or wiggle in the face of the family cat. Things sometimes get a little tense and I’m slowly learning about boundaries and personal space.
The necessities: Immunisation isn’t fun, I cried the house down when I visited the lovely team at Northern Beaches Veterinary Hospital…sorry Dr Lemmon. Also, did you know that I am required to go outside to do my business? Not sure why there’s one rule for me and a different rule for the rest of the Robinson family. But anyway, I’m getting the hang of this inconvenience.
Until next time,
Poppy 🐾
