The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980’s. The name “Pomodoro” is derived from the Italian word for “tomato”, as Cirillo used a tomato-shaped kitchen timer during his university studies. This technique has since gained popularity as a widely used time management strategy to improve efficiency and productivity, particularly for tasks that may seem daunting or overwhelming. Here’s how it works:
- Choose a Task: Select a task or project you want to work on.
- Set the Timer: Set a timer for 25 minutes, known as one “Pomodoro”.
- Work: Work on your chosen task with full concentration until the timer rings.
- Take a Short Break: When the timer rings, take a 5 minute break to relax and recharge.
- Repeat: Repeat the process. After completing 4 Pomodoros, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes.
